Replace Your Roof and Plan for Solar Together
If your roof needs replacing and you've been thinking about solar, it makes sense to look at them as one project. You're already paying for a new roof and a crew to put it on. A solar roof lets that same roof generate power, so you aren't installing a roof now and a solar array on top of it later.
Request a Project AssessmentWhen it's worth a look
The roof is near the end of its life. You were planning on solar anyway. The main faces of the roof get decent sun. And you have a few months to plan. If all four are true, you're the person this was designed for.
When it isn't
If the roof is fine, keep it. If it's leaking and has to be replaced next week, there isn't time to plan this properly. In either case a conventional reroof, with or without panels, is the practical choice.
How a reroof with SolRoof would go
- You send us the basics: address, photos or measurements of the roof, and roughly when it needs doing.
- We review whether the roof suits the system.
- You get a layout and a quotation, subject to local availability and technical review.
- Permits and utility paperwork are handled as required where you live.
- The old roof comes off, the deck is checked, and the new roof and electrical equipment go on.
- Inspection and connection.
Best for
- Roofs that are due for replacement
- Homeowners who want solar but not panels above the roof
- Roofs with large faces in good sun
May not be best for
- Roofs with plenty of life left
- Emergency replacements
- Replacements with no time to plan
Questions we get asked
Can SolRoof go over my existing shingles?
It's installed as a new roof covering. What has to be removed is confirmed during the technical review of your project.
Should I replace a roof that's still good?
We wouldn't. If the roof has years left, look at conventional panels.
How much lead time do you need?
It depends on the roof and where you are. Tell us your timing and location and we'll give you a straight answer.
